The Toyota Supra is not just an average sports car. It is legendary. The journey started with the first generation way back in 1979. Today, we are onto the fifth generation, released in 2020, aptly referred to as A90 or Mk5. Yet, the fourth type, launched in 1993 and referred to as the A80 or Mk4, really cemented the Supra as a legend.
The selling period for the A80 Supra managed to wave itself through a decade after its launch, sporting a high-output 3.0-liter 2JZ-GTE inline-six that’s good to make 225 bhp bone stock, mated to an original 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. And then, two turbochargers came, increasing its output by another 100 hp. Turbocharged versions had either the 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.
But, of course, the Mk4 Supra is not just a winning bat in international markets but also a car being imported that has legends standing behind it, partly thanks to its appearance in The Fast and the Furious movie series. Production ceased in 2002.
Almost 20 years had gone by without anything from the market that the sports car enthusiasts were expecting. In 2020, it was Toyota that took the initiative to bring back the Supra again, this time through collaboration with BMW, and they released the fifth generation. For its first launch, there was some doubt among car lovers that it would stand up to the name and be as iconic. Those doubts were whisked away instantly after people had the experience of driving it.

Toyota Supra Features
Exterior
The new Mk5 Supra looks utterly different from its predecessor, the Mk4, representative of the legendary Ferrari F40. Its two doors are equipped with sharp-looking headlights and a visually appealing front end. The Mk5 is a hardtop coupe.
Interior
Inside, the Mk5 Supra looks conspicuously much like a BMW Z4—both good and bad at the same time. It’s blacked out inside to give a snug, cocooned cabin, but up top are two digital representations of tachometers in the cluster, a nod to the new. It has adaptive cruise control, an 8.8-inch media screen, head-up display, and a JBL sound system with 12 speakers.
Engine
The 2024 Toyota Supra is rear-wheel drive and uses a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six making 335 hp.
The automatic transmission is thus rather different from that of the A80. The new A90 Supra is equipped with an 8-speed auto plus a quick-shifting manual mode through paddles.
Mileage
Toyota Supra Mk5 can be fuel-efficient to drive in the city for 10 km.
